The Quests

Six things to do on this island that are not tours. Each one is run by a host we have met out on the island and sat with at the long table: a fisherman, a cook, a forager, the Guild itself. You come back with something you made, caught, drew or said, and a bead on a cord to prove it.

Dawn · 04:30 to 07:30 · 3 hours

The Fisherman's Hour

The island wakes up before you do. Go see what it does when it thinks no one is watching.

There is a boat leaving before sunrise tomorrow. It is not a tour and there is nothing to see except a man doing his job the way his father did it. You can go, if you want. Most people sleep through the only hour the island is honest.

The objectiveGo out with a Guild fisherman before sunrise, help work the line or the net, and bring back what you catch.

The Provision Run

You cannot understand a kitchen until you have carried what goes into it.

Tomorrow's menu does not exist yet. It gets decided at the market at seven in the morning, by whoever is standing in front of the fish. You can be one of the people standing there.

The objectiveGo to the market with a Guild cook, choose one ingredient for that day's service, and carry it back yourself.

The Living Map

Every map you have used here was drawn by someone who was selling you something.

There is a map in your room with places on it. There are places not on it, because they belong to whoever finds them. Your quest is to draw your own, and to put one thing on it that we did not tell you about.

The objectiveMark your own cloth map with every place you have been on the island, including at least one you found without the Guild, and have it sealed.

Low tide · whenever it falls · 3 hours

The Salt Line

Take one thing off this island that it actually gave you.

The sea here is not scenery, it is an ingredient. At low tide we walk a stretch of coast and take three things from it, one of which is salt. You will eat all three tonight.

The objectiveForage the coastline at low tide with a Guild forager, harvest and finish your own salt, and have it served with your dinner.

Cancelled in heavy rain, the reduction will not hold.

Night · within four days of a new moon · 2.5 hours

The Dark Sky Watch

There is nothing above your city. There is everything above this one.

Tonight is a new moon, which means the sky over the far side of the island will do something you have almost certainly never seen. There is no light out there. We go out, we put the phones in a bag, and we lie down for an hour.

The objectiveSpend one full hour under the dark sky with no phone and no light, and name three things in it by the end.

Dinner · one fixed night a week · 3 hours

The Council of Strangers

You will sit with people you did not choose and you will not be allowed to talk about work.

Once a week the long table is set for people who arrived separately. One dinner, one table, no phones, and a question in the middle that everyone has to answer. We seat it, we do not curate it. That is the whole idea.

The objectiveTake a seat at the long table, answer the question at the centre honestly, and stay to the end of the meal.

Runs at six or it does not run.

How quests work

Book by message

One WhatsApp line with the quest and the day. The Guild confirms the host, the time and the tide.

Party size is the price

Boats, vans and foragers cost the same for one as for six. Below the minimum we offer the private price or another day.

Weather calls

Swell, squall, rain or cloud can cancel. A cancelled quest is deferred, never failed.

Guests of the Rōnin first

Rooms get first call. Open seats go to anyone on the island who asks.

Phones in the bag

Most quests run without them. You will get photos from the host afterwards.

The bead

Every finished quest earns a bead for your cord. Some doors on the lot only open to a full cord.

Ask the Guild

Stay and play

Quests run best from a room on the lot. Eighteen rooms, two plans, from ₱3,000 a night, and the map on your wall starts blank.
